Back to latest Flower of the Week
Camassia cusickii
This hyacinth of the American north west succeeds the bluebells in well-provided gardens. It naturalizes in dampish ground (exactly where snowdrops are happy) and surprises me every spring as a final bonne bouche when other bulbs in the woods are tailing off. The bulbs of its cousin the quamash gave the name to the Indians (native Americans) who relished it. It does rather well as a cut flower in water but looks best emerging from lush long grass.
