Iris unguicularis
What is there left to say about the voluptuous little iris that flowers on and off all winter? This winter it has been on, since October, with no let or hindrance.
Two years ago I moved a clump that had been cowering, without flowering, at the foot of the house wall, facing west, time out of mind, all leaf and no fun. I put them just inside the kitchen garden in the angle of a buttress on the wall by the gate, again facing west. Are they one of those plants that like being moved? It's not what the books say, but it's what happened.
Visitors say she is Mary Barnard. G.S. Thomas says M.B. doesn't flower before the spring. Do I really mind?
