An early tulip: Monsella
For a spectacular celebration of an early Easter it is hard to beat an over-the-top tulip in a pot. This is Monsella, a delirious harlequin of a thing; one of those tulips (there are many) that look their best full-blown, even over-blown, with their petticoats in disarray. The pot was not forced; just kept protected over winter and brought into the conservatory when the buds were swelling. It looked amazing on the breakfast table: an Easter event rather than a plant to take seriously.
